Coat of arms and flag
Vaduz coat of arms from 1978
Prince Franz Josef II bestowed the new municipal coat of arms on the municipality of Vaduz on July 26, 1978 to mark the 40th anniversary of his reign. It consists of a quartered shield. The first and fourth fields show a red princely hat on a silver background, the second and third fields a church flag on a red background.
The princely hat symbolizes the princely residence, while the silver church flag commemorates the Counts of Werdenberg/Sargans, who laid the foundation stone for the statehood of the country in 1342.
The coat of arms and the flag of the municipality of Vaduz are protected. Any use requires the express permission of the municipal council.
Old municipal coat of arms from 1932
Until the new coat of arms was granted, the municipality of Vaduz used a coat of arms that was granted to it by Prince Franz I on July 31, 1932, making it the first municipality in Liechtenstein to do so. It corresponded to the taste of the time and was naturalistic in design with all kinds of baroque details and decorations.
Flag of the municipality of Vaduz
With the award of the old coat of arms in 1932, Prince Franz I granted the municipality of Vaduz the right to fly a flag. This is horizontally divided, the upper field red and white, the lower field red. With the award of the new coat of arms in 1978, Prince Franz Josef II confirmed the unchanged adoption of the flag.
