School route safety
Getting to school is a daily challenge for children. Preschool children in particular, but also older children, are often unable to judge traffic situations properly. They have difficulty correctly judging the speed and distance of cars. They are not yet able to distinguish sounds reliably; it is completely impossible to determine the direction from which a sound is coming. They also find it difficult to focus their attention on different things at the same time.
However, walking to school independently is an important step in the children's development, strengthens their self-confidence in the long term and gives them the opportunity to acquire the necessary traffic skills. Walking to school is the most important way for children to learn how to deal with road traffic independently under real conditions.
