Siren test on February 5, 2025
Sirens need to be tested regularly to ensure that they sound the alarm reliably in an emergency. For this reason, the annual siren test will take place in Liechtenstein and throughout Switzerland on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. As in previous years, the Alertswiss channels will also be tested at the same time. A total of 23 sirens will be tested in Liechtenstein.
The population does not need to take any action
At 1.30 pm, the siren signal "General Alarm" sounds - a one-minute, regularly rising and falling wailing tone. Approx. 4 minutes later, the system repeats the whole thing again. If necessary, the siren test can be continued until 2 pm. At the same time, an information message is distributed via Alertswiss.
From 2 pm until 4.30 pm at the latest, the water alarm signal is tested in Switzerland in the near zones below dams (Sarganserland). It consists of twelve low continuous tones of 20 seconds each, at intervals of 10 seconds. Depending on the weather, this downstream siren test can also be heard in Liechtenstein (Balzers area).
What happens in the event of a real siren alarm?
If the general alarm sounds outside of an announced siren test, this means that there is a danger to the population. In this case, the population is requested to listen to the radio or inform themselves via the Alertswiss channels, follow the instructions of the authorities and inform their neighbors.
With Alertswiss Web and App, the Civil Protection has expanded its range of tools in the area of incident communication. In addition to triggering the general siren alarm, an information message will also be sent to cell phones via the Alertswiss app on February 5, 2025.
Used correctly, Alertswiss protects people and their livelihoods. It does this by informing the population correctly and comprehensively as quickly as possible. In the event of an incident, a message can be distributed via Alertswiss even without a siren alarm. With Alertswiss, the population can also receive a warning with recommendations on what to do in the event of small-scale incidents such as contaminated drinking water, impending mudslides or village and forest fires. The Alertswiss app is available free of charge for Android and iOS systems. It can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
